Project summary
One storm can wipe out a season. White HDPE anti-hail nets, cut to row width with reinforced edges, intercept hail while keeping light for red-apple colouring.
The challenge
Apple and pear growers in hail-prone regions face total crop losses from a single storm, plus bruised fruit downgraded to juice. Nets must stop hail without darkening the canopy so much that fruit colour and sugar content suffer.
The specification
- Material: virgin, UV-stabilised HDPE monofilament.
- Colour: white or crystal for minimal light loss; black for hot, high-sun regions.
- Format: widths matched to row spacing, cut to length; reinforced edges and eyelets on request.
- Systems: suitable for flat overhead, single-row drape and hood installations.
Why it works
- Hail interception — hailstones lose energy on the net and roll into alleys.
- Light preserved — white and crystal nets reduce light loss for better colour on red varieties.
- Secondary benefits — reduced sunburn, wind damage and, in enclosed systems, birds.
- Long service — UV-stabilised HDPE stays flexible through many seasons.
