Project summary
Hot climates and long road journeys demand packaging that breathes. UV-stabilised leno mesh bags in 25 and 50 kg sizes, colour-coded by crop and printed with the trader's label, keep produce ventilated and identifiable.
The challenge
In West African produce markets, onions and potatoes travel long distances by truck in high temperatures before reaching wholesalers. Packaging that traps heat and humidity causes sprouting and rot. Traders also need to identify grade, origin and owner quickly in crowded markets.
The specification
- Fabric: UV-stabilised polypropylene leno mesh that does not slip or ladder under load.
- Sizes: 25 kg and 50 kg formats (with 10–30 kg options), sized to typical bulb grades.
- Colours: red for onions, yellow and brown for potatoes, orange and custom colours for other crops or grades.
- Branding: a woven printed label strip with the trader's name, crop, weight and origin.
- Closure: drawstring or hemmed top for tying.
Why it works
- Ventilation. Open mesh keeps air moving through the load, slowing sprouting and rot in heat.
- Instant identification. Colour and label strips let buyers recognise grade and brand at a glance.
- Strength at low weight. Leno construction carries 50 kg with minimal plastic per bag.
- Cost control. Specifying gram weight per bag balances price against handling abuse.
